Discussion
  1. If you and your family were observant Christians during your upbringing, how did you view Easter—did you consider it an important date? Was it mostly a social occasion for family meals and egg hunts, or did you discuss the true meaning and significance of the holiday? If you were not raised in a Christian tradition, did you ever participate in any Easter celebrations, or was it just another date on the calendar?
  2. Has there ever been a time in your life when you considered yourself “too far gone” for Christ’s love and forgiveness? What was it about your actions or the circumstances of your life during that time that made you think Jesus wouldn’t want to get involved?
  3. Have you ever wondered about how much time Jesus spent among sinners, lepers, and other people whom the rest of society considered “unclean”? Who are some people or groups in modern society who have been cast out or marginalized by much of society? How can we respond to Jesus’ specific instructions to treat them with love and compassion?
  4. Has there ever been a time in your life when you were offered the chance to follow Christ or deepen your relationship with him, but you passed it up because you were worried you didn’t “have it together” enough to be a good Christian? What did you not have “together” in your life that you thought made you unworthy? What does it feel like to be reminded that Jesus doesn’t need us to have our lives completely straightened out to follow him—that he is the one who will do the work of transformation in us?
